Corgi Dinosaur Sweater

I think that I should absolutely knit the Corgis one or two of these (scroll down for Corgi content). You know, in my free time. What do you think?

As You Knit...

so shall you rip.

Stupid short row heels. I’m about to abandon Attempt #2, rip back, and try for Attempt #3 on these socks. One side of the heel looks quite nice.

Nutkin, the Good Side

The other side of the heel, however, looks as if it had been gnawed on by beavers. Wool-eating beavers.

Nutkin, the Bad Side

(An aside to my husband – Yes, dear. I do know the photos are out of focus. I also realize that they are over-exposed. And I did notice that the color balance was off. Yes, I am aware that it pains you to look at them. Sorry. You try taking close-ups of your own heel with a point-and-shoot camera in poor lighting, with no off-camera flash. And no Photoshop.)

I’m going to go have a wee glass of wine now. Then I will decide whether to fold laundry or rip my sock.

Wisteria

I love my mailman. He’s a really nice guy, he has cookies for the Corgis and, best of all, he brought me this today:

Wisteria

Isn’t it lovely?

I signed up for several classes at this year’s Madrona Winter Retreat. This is the kit for “Eek! Steeks as Design Elements” taught by the inimitable Mary Scott Huff, author of ‘The New Stranded Colorwork: Techniques and Patterns for Vibrant Knitwear‘. I’m so excited to start knitting this. Poor Nutkin may have to wait.

It's What's for Dinner and a Little Knitting

I do my best to plan the week’s dinners in advance. When the Cupcakes were still very little and I was working my meal plan was the last fragile line of defense between me and a very hungry and unhappy family. Now that I’m attempting to blog on a slightly more regular basis (of course I’ve been on a once-every-year-or-two schedule, so it should be quite easy to improve) I’m planning to make my weekly meal plan do double-duty and serve as blog fodder as well.

Up this week:

Main Dish
Monday Mama’s Mac-n-Cheese (adapted from How to Cook Everything)
Tuesday Parisian Chicken                        Mother’s Best p. 146
Wednesday Pasta with Broccoli Rabe                Food Matters p. 251
Thursday Mushroom Risotto
Friday Parents’ Night Out
Saturday Minestrone Soup
Sunday Out

I plan everything out in Excel including my grocery shopping lists – I do love a good spreadsheet. What you see is pretty much what I print out and hang on the fridge, minus the side dishes and other things I’ll be cooking during the week. This week’s “extras” include apple crisp and bread. I’ve also included a link to the cookbook I use, if I use one.

On to knitting…

Nutkin Number One has been growing, growing, growing as the girls say, but not as quickly as I’d like.
Nutkin Number One

Today I also picked up that last ball of yarn I was sure I’m going to need to make the long-promised sweaters for the Cupcakes. I’d better stop typing and start knitting. Overdue promises await.

Not Much Knitting Today

I didn’t do much knitting today, but I did manage to bake four loaves of bread from scratch. (Yay, me!)

Oh, and I did one more thing – I accompanied the Cupcakes to Beauty and the Beast. Recap here, with photos and everything. The show and “Prince and Princess (After-)Party” lasted much later than I had planned. Luckily for me friends came over for dinner tonight AND brought the dinner with them so we had something to eat.

Now it’s late and I’ve wasted, er, spent far too much time noodling around in Photoshop to actually compose a decent post. I’ll do better tomorrow, I promise.
