I Can See the Finish Line

This NaBloPoMo thing is kicking my butt. Only seven more posts to go after today…

Thank you to Jenny (whose blog is private, or I’d link to it) for this blog fodder:

“Stupid twins questions: Do you ever dress the girls alike or just in coordinated outfits? I can’t seem to find the coordinated ones as well as matchables. Do you find, like I do, that the girls wait to do something when they are both ready? And what is their favorite food?”

I never dress the girls in matching outfits. That’s just asking for trouble. I end up either calling them by some mangled combination of both their names or, worse yet, just getting it dead wrong. Of course, now that they’re getting bigger they have their own ideas about what they want to wear… and yesterday Papa dressed them. They know that he’s a pushover, so they insisted on wearing identical dresses. And I spent Thanksgiving having a series of conversations that went like this:

Me: H2, put on your shoes please.

Child: I S2!!!!

Me: I’m sorry. S2, put on your shoes please.

S2: No!

Sigh. Did I mention that the Cupcakes are three now?

I don’t have too much trouble finding coordinated outfits; I just buy several different colors of whatever I find. Right now I’m very fond of Mini Boden, Old Navy, and the resale shop down the street. There must a family with girl/girl twins about a year older than S2 and H2 here in the neighborhood because I regularly run across sets of ‘twinny’ girl outfits there.

I haven’t really noticed either of them waiting patiently until they are both ready before they do something, at least not lately. They were much more inclined to act as a pair when they were littler. Now it’s much more likely that the one who is ready will either pester the not-ready one until she is ready - ‘H2, coat! Put on coat! H2! H2!!! Put on COAT!!!!!’ - or run on ahead, leaving her sister in the dust.

As far as their favorite food is concerned, that’s simple: ice cream.

Thank you again, Jenny!

And I’d still love more questions, if any of you all have some…

    Fun twin facts!
Hey Marie’s favorite food (according to her) is icecream too. Not sure what Rose’s is, she won’t say, I’m guessing it’s pickles though.

Oh shoot, hit “submit” too soon. I did have another question, if you feel like it: do H&S have any concept that they’re twins or they do they even know what that word means? Do they think they look alike and/or can they tell who’s who in pictures?

I like M3’s question. Can they tell each other in pictures? My girls can. They say….mi…and ams when pointing. And we can ask them, where is your sis and they point to the right baby.

I am so late to this party, but I have to tell you that I am sure that I speak for all the twins’ current and future teachers when I say that not dressing the girls in matching outfits if sooo the way to go. I have a set of identical twins in my class who come dressed alike EVERY day. I can tell them apart in person, both because one has small scar on her check and the other doesn’t and because I know their personalities and who they like to play with. I cannot, however, tell them apart in photos to say my life. This makes the anecdotal recording that pre-k portfolios are based on a living hell. Also, the naughtier of the two is already telling me that she is her sister to get of trouble (she’s 3!). I must hear the phrase “are you sure it was me? I think you just thoughted it was me cause I look just like my sister!”
