Just Like Their Father

Over the past few months we have been warily circling the idea of potty training the Cupcakes. They have their own little potties here at home but they haven’t shown any kind of sustained interest in them. They’ll run in, sit down for a moment, then run right back out again.

But things seem to have changed, at least a little. I left the girls alone with their father for a few days. Sixteen hours after I came home he left on a business trip. In the rush of the hand-off it seems that he forgot to tell me that the Cupcakes had picked up a habit from their father.

Do you think that Land of Nod carries toddler magazine racks?

I was very frustrated as well with potty training. When I was researching potty training a common theme seemed to be praise and positive reinforcement. I came across a website called http://www.pottytrainingrewards.com. We hung it in the kitchen and named the little boy on the front of the package, Bobby. My son could not wait to go to the potty so he could push the button, hear the praising message, and get his chocolate reward from, Bobby. It really got my son excited about using the potty himself and it was fun for him. Because he became so involved, potty training was easy. So give it a try. Good Luck!

    Hi Karen,
Glad you beat Dirk to the punch! Yay. Potty training has brought me nothing that ‘potty mouth’ since the moment we were told they were ‘trained’ in China at 10months old. Yup. Have hovered them over the porcelein gods for over a year and at 27 lbs and counting, the old way of holding them in reverse chair position over our forearms no longer is an option. We went through a horrible transition to potty rings. Two months of striking. They finally declared mom the winner, and have started pooing and peeing in the toilet again. Everyone underestimates how time consuming it is to do it X2 every hour for infants (and toddlers with wee bladders and winter layers and IN PUBLIC RESTROOMS). As far as I”m concerned, no glory in early potty training!!!

Twin potty training! Why didn’t I think of that?! ha ha. We need to buy another seat. I love the photog of them sitting on potty together. My girls go with me. That is me on toilet and them on their potty. They think it is very cool. Only problem, their fully dressed! ha ha. We’re getting there however. Soon. They will be two June 16th. I guess it’s time.
